Vietnam’s Le Quang Liem drew his match with the Hikaru Nakamura, ranked first in the US, at the 39th Super GM Chess meet in Dortmund, Germany on Friday.
The draw with the 6th-ranked Japanese American helped the 27th-ranked Vietnamese extend his non-losing streak to seven matches with one win and remain in second spot at the July 22-31 event.
Second-placed Liem now has four points while fifth-ranked Russian Vladimir Borisovich Kramnik leads the tournament with six points. Liem, who is the only Vietnamese to enter the world top 100, also finished second at last year’s event.
